The code favoured by Matrix Marking is the 2D DMT code developed for aerospace applications. This code has a number of advantages for the indentification of surgical instruments. It is a very compact code, it is rectangular in shape, and it was designed to be marked by the dot peening process. There is another code, the Data Matrix code, that is offered for marking surgical instruments but this has a number of drawbacks and we will examine these later.
